Shipping Original Paintings to the US & Canada
Shipping an original painting from my studio in Vilnius to the United States or Canada usually runs between 300-500 EUR, depending on the size and the courier rates which shift from day to day, so rather than charging a flat fee, I calculate the exact cost per painting and compare UPS, DPD, DHL or other carriers to get you the best possible price to your door. Contact me regarding the painting you're drawn to, and I'll come back to you shortly.
Below is why the range moves, what to expect with taxes, and how the whole thing works when you're buying online from my studio in Vilnius.
Why does shipping cost what it does?
The full price is only two things: the painting itself, and the shipping cost for a work of that size and weight. Nothing else is added on. I calculate the shipping by comparing carrier rates and taking the best one, so what you pay is the work plus the real cost of getting it to you, packed properly, tracked the whole way, and insured in transit.
Rates also move a lot between courier services. For the very same painting, one carrier might quote a price on a given day that's a hundred euros more than another. I'd rather be transparent about that than hide it in a flat fee, so when you're ready, I compare the options and get you the best shipping price I can find for your work.
Are there import taxes or duties?
For original hand-painted work on canvas, there's actually no import duty into the US or Canada. Original paintings enter duty-free under the standard art classification. What can apply is sales tax (in Canada, for example, GST plus a provincial portion), and that's the buyer's responsibility. I can't calculate it upfront with full accuracy, because in Canada the rate differs from one province to the next, but I can give you a preliminary estimate so you go in with a realistic picture. I'll always tell you what to expect before you commit to anything, so there are no surprises at your door.
How is the painting packed for such a long journey?
Each work is wrapped to protect the surface and the edges, then packed into a sturdy cardboard box sized to the piece. Originals on canvas travel well when they're packed properly and insured.
How long does delivery take?
Most shipments to the US and Canada arrive within one week, depending on the destination and customs processing. Once your painting is on its way, you'll have tracking so you can follow it the whole route.
How does buying from Vilnius actually work?
It's simpler than it sounds. You tell me which painting speaks to you, or send a photo of the wall you're trying to fill, and we'll talk it through. I confirm the piece, the shipping cost to your address, and what to expect with taxes if applies. When you're ready, I arrange everything, and the work comes to you.
For collectors outside the EU, I'm also represented on Singulart, a secure platform for acquiring original work with worldwide shipping. Either way works; some people prefer the direct conversation, others the platform. I'm happy with whichever feels right to you.
Tell me which work speaks to you, and I'll take care of the rest.
Send me the link to the painting you love and your address, and I'll calculate your shipping quote. Want to see it on your wall first? Send a photo and the wall's width and I'll make you a free visualization.
