This makes proportion essential; the painting should relate directly to the size of the sofa and the wall behind it. As a general guideline, the artwork works best at around 60 – 75% of the sofa width.

For wider walls, for example, around 4 –5 meters, a small or medium piece is rarely sufficient. In such cases, a large-format abstract painting or a diptych (two-part artwork) is typically recommended to properly fill the space and maintain visual balance. While horizontal compositions are a common choice, from our experience we often recommend square format paintings, as they create a more architectural, boutique-like feeling and instantly elevate the space beyond a more expected, “safe” horizontal layout.
